Craniosacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on technique that helps the body restore balance in the fascia, membranes, and cerebrospinal fluid which surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. When restrictions develop in these systems, they can contribute to symptoms like headaches and migraines, back or neck pain, anxiety or emotional dysregulation, nervous system disorders, and more. Our clinic in Wheat Ridge, serving Arvada and the greater Denver, Colorado area, offers CST as part of a comprehensive functional medicine approach to support healing and well-being.

Research supports CST for a variety of conditions. A meta-analysis of 10 randomized controlled trials with over 680 patients showed that CST had significant and robust effects on chronic pain and functional disability, lasting up to six months post-treatment.  For people with migraines, a controlled trial found that CST reduced both the frequency and severity of migraine attacks.  In fibromyalgia patients, CST has been shown to improve symptoms including pain, anxiety, quality of life, and sleep, both during treatment and months afterward.

Symptoms & Conditions CST May Support

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Chronic neck and back pain

  • Fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndromes

  • Stress, anxiety, and emotional imbalances

  • Nervous system dysregulation

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Post-traumatic stress symptoms

  • Sinus tension or jaw pain (TMJ disorders)

  • Support during recovery from trauma or surgery

  • General tension, imbalance, or feelings of “stuckness”

Because CST is subtle, a specially trained practitioner uses gentle but precise touch to detect and release restrictions. This often leads to greater ease in movement, reduced pain or tension, improved sleep and stress levels, and better overall nervous system balance.

**Important Note: CST is not offered for children under age 8 at our clinic. However, older children, adolescents, and adults may benefit greatly from this therapy when appropriate.

CranioSacral Therapy FAQ

Q: What does CranioSacral Therapy feel like?
A: Most people describe CST as deeply relaxing. You may feel gentle pressure, warmth, or subtle shifts in your body as restrictions release. Some patients even fall asleep during sessions.

Q: How many CranioSacral sessions will I need?
A: The number of sessions varies depending on your health goals and the severity of your concerns. Some people feel relief after one or two visits, while others benefit from ongoing care as part of a larger treatment plan.

Q: Is CranioSacral Therapy safe?
A: Yes. CST is very gentle and non-invasive, making it safe for most people, including those who are sensitive to touch or unable to tolerate more forceful bodywork. At our clinic, we only provide CST for children over 8 years old.

Q: Can CranioSacral Therapy replace medical care?
A: CST is designed to complement—not replace—conventional care. We may recommend it alongside naturopathic, functional medicine, or other supportive therapies to create a more complete healing plan.

Q: What should I wear to a CranioSacral therapy session?
A: Comfortable, loose clothing is best. You remain fully clothed during treatment.
